SIU Investigating After Police Vehicle Hits Woman In Wheelchair

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a woman in a motorized wheelchair was hit by a London police vehicle Monday evening.

The woman was taken to Victoria Hospital to be treated for an arm injury.

The London Police Service says on Monday around 6pm, the woman was struck by the police vehicle at the intersection of Dundas St. and Adelaide St., near police headquarters.

The SIU says the police vehicle was heading south on Adelaide and turning west onto Dundas when the collision took place.

The SIU has assigned two investigators, two forensic investigators, and a collision reconstructionist to investigate the incident.

No charges have been laid at this time and police say the investigation is in its early stages.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. Anyone who may have video evidence related to the incident is asked to upload the video through the SIU's website. You can find that website by clicking here.

Traffic was restricted in the area while police were at the scene.
