Canada Rolls Over Slovakia 5-0 at World Juniors

Team Canada scored four goals in the second period alone as they rolled to a 5-0 victory over Slovakia at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship Tuesday night at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

Canada is now 2-0 in the round-robin portion of the tourney, held this year in Toronto and Montreal.

There was no scoring in the first period, though both teams would have one unsuccessful power play each.  Jeremy Lauzon would get things started for Canada in the second period, with a goal at 5:30.  Lauzon would also get an assist in the contest.  Taylor Raddysh would double Canada's lead with a goal at 10:57.  Just a minute and 40 seconds later, Anthony Cirelli scored to make it 3-0 Canada, but Canada was not done in the period.  Thomas Chabot would score on the power play later in the period.  Slovakia would be held to just one shot on goal in that period alone.

Michael McLeod scored early in the third period in a penalty-free third period.  Slovakia had a total of six shots in the whole game.  Canada fired 39 shots at Slovakia, who takes on the United States Wednesday.  Canada is up against Latvia Thursday.

In other games played Wednesday, Switzerland beat the Czech Republic in overtime 4-3, Russia dominated Latvia 9-1 and Denmark beat Finland 3-2.
