Damian Warner Honoured By City Of London

An Olympic bronze medalist is this year's recipient of the Outstanding London Ambassador Award.

It was announced Friday that decathlete Damian Warner has been named the winner of the award for 2016.

“Damian Warner is the perfect choice to be named the first recipient of the Outstanding London Ambassador Award,” said Mayor Matt Brown. “His dedication to sport, his pride in London and his generosity to our community are all hallmarks of a true ambassador.”

Warner won a bronze medal in the decathlon at the Rio Olympics this summer. He is also won a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games and silver at the World Championships in China.

“I am truly honoured to be the first recipient of this award,” said Warner. “The London community has always been, and continues to be, a huge supporter of me and my career. Without that support I would never have been able to make it to the Olympics. I am so thankful and humbled for such an amazing recognition.”

According to the City of London, the Outstanding London Ambassador Award is given each year to a person, business, or organization that "demonstrates, through their actions, an outstanding contribution to bringing a positive national and international recognition to London."

The award will be presented to Warner at Monday’s meeting of city council.
