A tip from a Toronto psychiatric facility may have sparked the investigation that led police to charge a Woodstock nurse with the murders of eight nursing home residents.
CBC News reports that, according to its sources, staff at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto called police in September regarding information Elizabeth Wettlaufer provided about the residents' deaths.
Wettlaufer, 49, was charged Tuesday with eight counts of first degree murder in connection with the deaths of seven residents of Caressant Care in Woodstock and one resident of Meadow Park nursing home in London. Police say the eight residents range in age from 75-96 and died between 2007-2014.
When contacted by BlackburnNews.com, CAMH spokesperson Sean O'Malley declined to comment.
"Due to patient confidentiality we don't disclose who our patients are and for any active police investigation we refer back to the police force in question," says O'Malley.
During a news conference in Woodstock on Tuesday, police said the victims died after being administered a drug but would not elaborate on what drug.
Wettlaufer remains in police custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 2.
