Holmes To Visit Dream Home

One of Canada's best known contractors is coming to London on Saturday.

Mike Holmes, host of HGTV's Home Free and Holmes and Holmes, along with his daughter Sherry, will be in town to tour the Dream Lottery Home on Humberside Common.

"The public can expect a great ribbon cutting ceremony, opening the home by Mike Holmes and then they are going to have the opportunity to tour the home and meet Mike," says Rita Fieder, program manager of the Dream Lottery.

The $1.3-million grand prize home in the fall edition of the Dream Lottery opened to the public on October 6. The home was built by Wastell Homes, a "Holmes Approved Homes" builder.

This is the first time the lottery has enlisted the help of a celebrity in its 20 year history.

"There has been a real buzz about him coming to the city and to the dream home. He is a very busy man, so this will be his only visit to the home," says Fieder.

Holmes will tour the Dream Home at 11:40am, with the ribbon cutting to follow at 12:15pm. He will remain at the home until 1:45pm.

The grand prize lottery winner will have the choice of the home with a Mercedes-Benz in the driveway or $1-million cash.

According to Fieder, tickets have been selling extremely well since going on sale last week.

"We have come out of the gate a lot quicker with ticket sales this year than in previous lotteries," says Fieder. "The fact we've got a celebrity - Mike Holmes, it's a Wastell dream home which is extremely well built, and we've got a great surprise in the basement with a London Knights themed area, show this home has a lot to offer and certainly it's showcasing itself on ticket sales."

The Dream Lottery has raised a net total of more than $28.2-million since 1996 in support of the Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care, and London Health Sciences Centre.
