In an effort to address racism as a reoccurring problem in London, over 150 community members are set to gather for a group forum.
The forum will be held at the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre on Saturday at 7am, and will feature a panel discussion from several high-profile community members. Those participating in the conversation will discuss ways they can "interrupt racism" and make London a more inclusive city.
Chief Leslee White-Eye of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, London’s newly appointed Diversity and Inclusion Officer Saleha Khan, Leroy Hibbert of LUSO Community Services and Fanshawe College Professor Lorraine McNeil will all be in attendance. As well, Mayor Matt Brown and activist Mojdeh Cox will be present to facilitate the event.
“We’re working to make London a safe, inclusive and accepting place for everyone, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity,” says Brown in a media release. “We’ve seen far too many displays of hatred in our city. It’s time we, as a community, take action.”
The forum is a result of a partnership between the Mayor's Office, the London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee, and other community partners.
