OPP Target Poor Driving Habits On Rural Roads

Oxford OPP, cracking down on bad driver behaviour, handed out 19 tickets over five hours on rural roads.

Police zeroed in on motorists in Zorra and East Zorra-Tavistock Townships last Saturday after a recent collision analysis showed a high number of crashes in the area. The analysis was done by the OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD).

Most of the tickets issued were for speeding between 35-45 km over the posted speed limit.

Police say the majority of serious and fatal collisions they are called to happen on county roads, not major highways.

"I would like to remind the public that the HSD officers are not only patrolling the highways but assisting in ensuring the public are driving safely on all roadways,” says Oxford OPP Inspector Tim Clark.

Police plan to hold similar traffic initiatives in the targeted townships in the near future.
