Council Facing Two Ombudsman Investigations

The Ontario Ombudsman has launched two investigations into conduct by London city council.

A release from city hall says both investigations relate to complaints that have been filed regarding closed door meetings.

The first meeting, held in May, was over the hiring of Gregory Stewart for the position of Integrity Commissioner.

The second meeting was held in June and concerned the release of Stewart's report into allegations that Mayor Matt Brown and Councillor Maureen Cassidy violated council's Code of Conduct when they had a brief affair. His report concluded they did violate the code.

In February, the Ombudsman determined Mayor Brown and the rest of council did not intentionally violate the Municipal Act, but nevertheless did so when the doors to city hall were locked during a meeting last summer.
