London police are investigating after the body of a newborn baby was found in a downtown dumpster.
Police received information that a deceased baby was discovered in a garbage dumpster in the area of Richmond St. and Mill St. around 11:35am Thursday.
“We are currently investigating and our Major Crime Unit will be providing more information to myself to provide to the public later on,” says Constable Sandasha Bough. “It’s still the early stages of the investigation, therefore we don’t have too many details to provide to the public at this time.”
Following the grisly discovery, the area was cordoned off and residents of the apartment building at 657 Richmond St. were not allowed inside.
At this point police aren't releasing the gender of the baby.
"The body of the deceased baby has since been removed and will be undergoing a post-mortem," says Constable Bough. "We will provide more information to the public as we receive it."
The autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
