UPDATE: Driver In Stable Condition After Hwy. 401 Crash

A woman who was pinned under a tractor trailer following a serious crash on Hwy. 401 in Chatham-Kent, is now listed in stable condition.

The Ontario Provincial Police say around 3pm on Saturday, a tractor trailer crossed through the centre median near Bloomfield Rd., travelled across the eastbound lanes, rolled over and came to rest in the south ditch of Hwy. 401. The tractor trailer was hauling rubber retread and the contents of the load spilled out into the ditch as it rolled over.

The female driver of the tractor trailer was partially ejected during the crash and became pinned under the vehicle.

The woman was rushed to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with life threatening injuries before being airlifted to a London hospital. She has since been upgraded to stable condition.

An investigation into the crash is still ongoing and police says charges are expected to be laid.

The westbound lanes were closed at Bloomfield Rd. but were reopened around 6pm, and the eastbound lanes were reopened at Queens Line around 9:15pm.
