UPDATE: Murder Charge Laid In Fatal Truck Fire

Lambton OPP have laid a charge of first degree murder in Sunday's fatal transport truck fire on Hwy. 402 in Plympton-Wyoming.

Police say the body of 37-year-old Gurpreet K. Brar of Brampton was discovered in the burned vehicle. The victim was sent to the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Services in Toronto for further examination.

As a result of the investigation, 50-year-old Sukhchain Singh Brar, also of Brampton, has been charged with first degree murder and will appear in Sarnia court Thursday, February 4.

Police confirm the accused is the husband of the victim.

Emergency crews responded to the westbound lanes at the Camlachie Rd. overpass around 3:15am January 31, and found a Freightliner cab fully engulfed in flames.

An initial police news release indicated the driver got out safely but a passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The westbound lanes were closed between Mandaumin Rd. and Oil Heritage Rd. until 7:30pm Sunday.

Police are continuing to investigate under the direction of Detective Inspector Heidi Stewart of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
