Argyle Welcomes Santa Claus

Jolly Old Saint Nick comes Saturday for his third London parade of the season.

The Argyle BIA Santa Claus parade kicks off at 2pm. It runs down Dundas St., beginning at the Home Depot and ending at the Chevy Auto Body Shop near Crabby Joe's.

This year's parade theme is "Christmas is for kids" and has expanded to more than 70 floats and choirs.

"We're bringing it right back down to where it should be, all about the kids. There will be lots of candy canes being handed out," says BIA Manager Heidi Currie.

Currie says there is one key factor that sets their parade apart from others.

"The difference with ours is we do not charge for anyone to participate in the parade," says Currie. "Consequently, a lot of non-profit agencies are coming to our parade because it doesn't cost them anything. So they could put what little funds they have into decorating the float or bringing awareness to the community about what they do. It really has become a community parade."

Last year roughly 8,000 spectators lined Dundas St. to take in the parade. With temperatures expected to be in the double-digits Saturday, Currie anticipates an even bigger crowd.

London Transit is once again offering kids age five to grade six free rides to and from the parade, when accompanied by an adult. Children under five ride for free as always.
