Thieves Target Unlocked Vehicles

A rash of thefts from vehicles has police urging those in west London to be extra vigilant.

Police say there have been 23 reported incidents of items being stolen from vehicles in the Hunt Club and Hazelden neighbourhoods since September 1.

That's up significantly compared to last year when there were only six reported thefts over the same time period and police believe there have been additional incidents that have gone unreported.

The majority of vehicles that had items taken were unlocked at the time. Thieves haven't been picky, making off with anything available including GPS devices, coins, business cards, identification, and tools.

Police say while these thefts have been happening every day of the week, they are concentrated Thursday to Sunday between midnight and 5am.

Police believe those responsible have been using the Sifton Bog trails to go between the two neighbourhoods. They encourage residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activity, remove valuable from vehicles, and lock car doors.
