Spitfires Double Up Knights

Bradley Latour scored a goal and two assists while five other Spitfires also put the puck in the net, as Windsor doubled up the London Knights 6-3 on Sunday at the WFCU Centre.

The share-the-wealth idea also spread to the London Knights with each of their three goals scored by a different player.

Latour says he is enjoying the rivalry that has developed between Windsor and London.

"I like it.  Rivalries are fun, a nice physical game, that's my kind of style of hockey," says Latour.

Latour had the third and final power play goal for the Spits, who went three-for-six on the extra man advantage.  Two of those goals came in the second period in what would become the first time the Spitfires defeated London at the WFCU Centre.

Latour's teammate, Aaron Luchuk, calls the win significant.

"I've been here for awhile now and we haven't beat London much so for us to get two wins against them already is huge," says Luchuk.  "This is an exciting team to watch and exciting to be on."

Gabriel Vilardi began the scoring for Windsor in the first period with his seventh of the season barely three minutes into the game.  London would come back just over three minutes later with an equalizer from Chandler Yakimowicz, his first goal of the year.  Jalen Chatfield put Windsor ahead at almost 17 minutes into the period, but London's Kole Sherwood would tie things up again less than a minute after that.

The exchange of goals would continue into the second period when Cristiano DiGiacinto's sixth goal of the season gave the Spitfires a 3-2 lead on the power play less than a minute into the stanza.  Aaron Berisha would knot the score for a third time for London at 7:45 into the second.  Latour's goal toward the end of the period would end up being the game winner.  Luchuk got an insurance lamplighter in the third for Windsor and Cole Carter's empty-netter sealed the win for the Spits.

The Spitfires went three-for-eight on the power play and killed off all three of London's extra man advantages.

Spitfires head coach Rocky Thompson says that was an example of how focused his team has been.

"We were able to take advantage of the fact that we were getting power plays," says Thompson.  "We maintained discipline.  It was a physical game, they (London) would get penalized for it.  We weren't retaliating which was huge."

The win gives Windsor a two-point lead over Sarnia for the lead in the West Division.  The loss was only the Knights' second in regulation this season and despite it, remain only three points off the lead in the Midwest Division.

The Spitfires host Flint Thursday for their next game, while London waits to host the Spits Friday night at Budweiser Gardens.
