Baby Killed In Central Elgin Crash

Police are investigating after a four-month-old infant was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Central Elgin.

The Ontario Provincial Police says on Wednesday around 7pm, a Chevy pick-up truck failed stop at a stop sign at Yarmouth Centre Rd. and Ron McNeil Line, colliding with an silver Dodge SUV. The pickup t-boned the SUV, forcing both vehicles into a ditch.

The four-month-old infant boy, who was in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat of the SUV behind the driver, was taken to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the SUV, a 35-year-old London woman, was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition. A 33-year-old man, seated in the rear seat on the passenger side of the SUV, was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 68-year-old Malahide Township man, was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

No names have been released pending notification of next of kin.

Yarmouth Centre Line at Ron McNeil Rd. will remain closed until around 2am on Thursday while officers conduct their investigation.
