Police were forced to evacuate a passenger train in Woodstock after receiving a threat of an explosive on board.
The Woodstock Police Service says on Friday around 8:21pm, officers responded to the threat at the VIA Rail Canada station located at 100 Wellington Rd. S.
The train headed to Toronto from Windsor was stopped at the station after police received "concerning information" from crew members on board.
All 221 passengers and 12 crew members were safely removed from the train, and train traffic was halted along the Canadian National Railway corridor. A search was then conducted by Woodstock police and the Ontario Provincial Police Canine Unit.
At 10:38pm, after the safety of the train was confirmed, passengers were allowed to re-board and continue to their destinations.
No explosives were located and no one was injured.
As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old train passenger was arrested and has been charged with mischief over $5,000. He will appear in court in Woodstock on November 10.
