Two Charged In Thames Centre Crash

Charges have been laid after a collision in Thames Centre sent two people to hospital.

Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police say on June 25 around 4pm, a black BMW car drove through a stop sign on Gore Rd. at Shaw Rd. and entered the intersection. It was struck by a yellow Dodge panel truck which was travelling south on Shaw Rd.

The driver of the car, 52-year-old Michael Laekeman of London, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has since been discharged. The passenger of the car, 24-year-old Cassandra De Dauw of London, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Thames Centre Fire Department. She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been discharged.

The driver of the panel truck was uninjured in the collision.

Gore Rd. was closed at Shaw Rd. for several hours following the crash.

Laekeman has since been charged with driving while impaired, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and failing to comply with an undertaking. He has also been charged with possession of cocaine and possession of an unknown schedule I substance. Laekeman has been held in custody pending a court date on July 3.

De Dauw has been charged with possession of a schedule I substance. She has been released from police custody with a future court date.
