Man Wanted For London Murder Now Considered Missing Person

The man wanted for second degree murder in the death of a teenager in London is now the subject of a missing person investigation in Ottawa, after jumping into the Rideau River to evade police.

Police say a man tried to run over police officers in downtown Ottawa around 4pm on Wednesday, leaving one officer with minor injuries.

Officers gave chase in a squad car and ended up near the Rideau River. Two suspects jumped out of the car and officers were able to arrest one, but lost the other.

Several hours later, police were called to the river's edge, where the same man was trying to swim across.  Police went into the water after the man, but he went under before the officers could reach him. Police have been unable to locate the man since.

The London Police Service says officers are investigating the "possibility" that 23-year-old Muhab Sultanaly Sultan of Calgary is the man being sought by Ottawa authorities.  A warrant was issued last week for Sultan's arrest for second degree murder in the death of  18-year-old Jeremy Cook.

Police say on June 14, officers in London were responding to a disturbance in a parking lot at 1181 Highbury Ave. N, and were directed to 1365 Huron St. by citizens reporting gunfire in the area. Officers found Cook suffering from gunshot wounds at that location. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
