More details are coming to light about the tragic drowning of a brother and sister in Port Burwell.

OPP say 7-year-old David Harder and his 10-year-old sister Lisa from Glen Meyer in Norfolk County, were at the beach with 4 other family members Friday went they and their 9-year-old sister ran into trouble in the water.

The eldest member of the family present, a 19-year-old, managed to save the 9-year-old but lost sight of the other two.

Around 60 volunteers teamed up with the fire department to form a human chain which helped find the pair but it was too late.

Both were pronounced dead in hospital.

Neither child was wearing a life preserver at the time.

OPP are reminding all non-swimmers and weak swimmers of the importance of wearing life jackets and using floatation devices at or near water.
