Man Charged In Port Stanley Confrontation

A violent confrontation in Port Stanley has left a man facing a long list of charges.

Elgin OPP and Central Elgin Fire were called to a blaze at a home on Brayside St. shortly before 6:30pm Saturday.

Neighbours told police a man had gotten into a fight outside of the residence with the homeowner before forcing him at knife point back inside the burning home. The man then ran off down the street, breaking into another home.

Police quickly found a suspect, who allegedly resisted arrest. They claim once in the cruiser the suspect continued to resist, causing extensive damage to the police vehicle.

Doug Spink is charged with the following offences;

  • Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code.
  • Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code.
  • Resisting a Police Officer contrary to the Criminal Code.
  • Mischief under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code.
  • Break and Enter contrary to the Criminal Code.
  • Assault with the Intent to Resist Arrest contrary to the Criminal Code.
Spink remains in police custody pending a show cause bail hearing.

Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office continue to investigate the cause of the house fire on Brayside St. in Port Stanley.
