Flu Vaccination Campaign Underway

Provincial health officials are hoping more Ontarians roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated against influenza.

The annual vaccination campaign was launched on Monday. Flu shots are now available at doctors offices, pharmacies, and health units.

And for the first time, children in Ontario will have access to a flu mist that will spare them being pricked with a needle. The nasal spray will be available to children between the ages of two and 17.

The mist also provides protection against four strains of Influenza, compared to the three strains in the flu shot. Parents can opt to have their child receive a shot designed for young people, which also protects against four strains.

After seeing attendance at its community flu shot clinics continue to fall last year, the Middlesex London Health Unit is not holding any community clinics this year. However, vaccinations will still be offered at its walk-in vaccination clinics on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
