'An Active Student Who Loved Sports'

The 10-year-old victim of a house fire near Strathroy is being remembered as a boy with "an incredible sense of humour" who "always wore a smile on his face."

The words describing Quinn Derbyshire came in a statement released by Ellen Lundberg, principal of Caradoc North Public School, where Quinn was a Grade 6 student.

He died Sunday in a fire in his family's home on Melbourne Rd.  Search crews found his body Monday.

Grief counselors were sent to the school to help students and staff deal with the loss of Quinn, whom Lundberg says was a "a caring and loving boy who could always be counted on to help out when needed."

The school is extending condolences to the Derbyshire family.

Visitation has been scheduled for Friday from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Denning's Funeral Home at 32 Metcalfe St. W.

The funeral will be held Saturday at Strathroy East Christian Reformed Church, 476 Metcalfe St. E at 1pm.

The Derbyshire family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Quinn's memory are made to the Strathroy and District Minor Hockey Association.

Officials are still looking for the cause of the fire.
