Project LEARN Sees Decrease In Charges And Tickets

London police laid fewer charges and issued a smaller number of  tickets during this year's Project LEARN campaign compared to last.

Police say a large crowd in the Broughdale Ave. area during Homecoming this past weekend was the only major issue throughout the month-long project.

Since Labour Day weekend, police laid 23 criminal charges in the Western University and Fanshawe College neighbourhoods. Only five of the accused were students.

Police handed out 791 provincial offence notices, 499 of which were given to students.

Last year during the same time period, police laid 105 criminal charges and issued 1,422 provincial offence notices.

There were no criminal charges laid during homecoming in those neighbourhoods, however officers did issue 76 tickets - both statistics are down from last year's event.
