It will be a big help for people who have left everything behind as they start new lives in Canada.
Fanshawe College announced Friday it will offer free tuition to ten Syrian refugees who settle in London. The move comes as part of the ciy of London's response to the crisis in Syria.
“Access to high quality education has a transformative and stabilizing influence on people’s lives,” says Fanshawe’s President Peter Devlin. “As an institution committed to providing pathways to success, Fanshawe looks forward to the opportunity to help empower these people as they rebuild their lives in London. Whether they are embarking on a first career or retraining for the Canadian marketplace, we’ll be here to help.”
The college says the tuition will be paid for through bursaries established by private donations and fundraising efforts from the Fanshawe College Foundation.
Donations can be made here. Donors are asked to specify that their contribution be directed to the “Syrian Refugee Tuition Fund”.
