Man Who Drowned In Grand Bend Identified

Police have identified the man who drowned at Pinery Provincial Park as Matthew Boniface, 27, of Ingersoll.

Ontario Provincial Police officers were called to the beach about a man in distress around 1pm on Thursday afternoon.

Before emergency crews arrived, bystanders had pulled Boniface from the water and performed CPR.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say he was trying to swim back from a sand bar in Lake Huron, just off the beach at Pinery Provincial Park when he got too tired. He was unable to make it back to shore and drowned.
