Fanshawe Predicts Growth, Western Enrollment Stagnant

Fanshawe College is reporting a spike in those registered for fall classes, while Western University's numbers are stagnant.

Western University is predicting 5,211 full-time, first year students will descend on its main London campus come September, those numbers are exactly the same as the previous year.

The university came under heavy fire by employees, students and the media last year when the 2014 public salary disclosure revealed President Amit Chakma took a double payout, banking nearly $1-million.

Meanwhile, Fanshawe College says there's a 6% spike in registration for Canadian students and a 31% jump in international student registration for this coming school year.

"We will be launching 10 new programs, we really, really put a push on new program development," says Tony Frost with Fanshawe College. "We know as a college we have to be responsive to the changing marketplace and we're very job or career oriented."

Many students have already started arriving in the areas surrounding both Fanshawe College and Western University.

As the school year looms, London police will once again be launching Project L.E.A.R.N (Liqour Enforcement and Reduction of Noise) targeting rowdy student rentals.
