Oktoberfest Coming To London

London's Western Fair District will host Oktoberfest this fall.

The five day festival will run the weekends of October 9-10 and October 15-17. It will feature Bavarian beer, food and music.

This is the first ever expansion of the Kitchener-Waterloo event, which draws about 700,000 people over the span of one week.

"Who knows where it might lead, and if it takes on another dimension in other parts of the city...that's great too," says CEO of the Western Fair District Hugh Mitchell. "It's customs, culture around German music and attire that follows with that culture. So, there's an educational component as well as an entertainment component."

It is expected the London event, set to take place in the Agriplex, will draw between 8,000-10,000 people and generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for the local economy.

"Why not now make it part of this location? Why not make it easy for the people of London to experience Oktoberfest," says KW Oktoberfest President Alan Lowrick. "It wasn't just a money grab, it's not something we're looking for .. it was adding another cultural experience for the city of London."

Officials at the Western Fair District say ticket information and a layout of what the festival will entail is to follow.

2015 marks the 47th year for the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest.
