Confirmed: London Murder Suspect Dead

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit confirmed on Tuesday morning that the man who drowned in Ottawa's Rideau River is the same man wanted in a London murder investigation.

Muhab Sultanaly Sultan, 23, was wanted on a second-degree murder warrant in the shooting death of Jeremy Cook. The 18-year-old had tracked his missing cellphone to a vehicle in the Highbury Ave. and Huron St. area on June 14, and was shot while attempting to retrieve it from three men. Sultan was identified as a suspect and London police are still working on confirming the identities of the other two men.

Investigators have been waiting for positive proof that it was Sultan who was driving a car in Ottawa last Wednesday and allegedly attempted to run down two officers on bicycles. A passenger was arrested but the driver attempted to elude police by swimming across the river and didn't make it. His body was recovered on Saturday.

The SIU says its investigation of the circumstances surrounding Sultan's death is ongoing.
