City And CUPE To Return To Bargaining

The city and the union representing 750 striking inside workers are set to return to the bargaining table on Thursday.

This, after the two sides called off talks over the weekend.

Inside city workers walked off the job in May. The strike is now in its sixth week.

Picketers have been blocking traffic at different city run sites across London and ramping up demonstrations.

Meanwhile, city officials tell BlackburnNews.com roughly 40 people have crossed the picket lines to return to their jobs. City managers are assuring the workers they will not be punished, but the union is threatening fines and suspensions.

Strike pay is roughly $300 a week.

During this round of negotiations the two sides have said very little and issued joint statements to the media.

In the beginning, union officials said the city was not coming to the table with fair offers and trying to force employees to work evenings and weekends. On the other hand, the city had previously said its offer included at least a 1% wage hike every year for the next four years.
