River Search Continues For Man Wanted In Deadly London Shooting

Police in Ottawa continue to search the Rideau River for a missing man who is believed to be Muhab Sultan, the 23-year-old wanted in connection to the shooting death of teenager Jeremy Cook.

Investigators say two men tried to run down a pair of officers travelling by bike in downtown Ottawa on Wednesday afternoon. Then, a cruiser chased the suspects to a spot near the Rideau River. When the two jumped out of the car, one was arrested and the other, believed to be Sultan, got away.

A few hours later, police were called to the river's edge where that same man was spotted trying to swim across. When officers went into the river the man went under the water and disappeared. He has not been seen since.

Sultan, originally from Calgary, is wanted for second degree murder in a high profile London homicide.

Jeremy Cook, 18, was gunned down in the early morning hours of June 14. The teenager was tracking a cell phone he had left in a taxi when he died. The software he was using led him to the Huron and Highbury Ave. area of the city, where he found a car with three men inside.

Cook approached the car in search of his cell phone, when the driver tried to get away the teenager grabbed onto the driver's side door and held on, that is when he was shot several times.

His body was found behind a plaza on Highbury Ave. Cook was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the car and cell phone were found a short distance away.

Investigators later issued a warrant for Sultan and urged the public not to approach the suspect. London police are still searching for two other suspects, both described as black males. One was wearing a black jacket and fitted black hat at the time of the murder.
