Death Investigations No Cause For Alarm, Police Say

Three dead bodies in the span of just over 48 hours, yet London police say while all investigations are on-going, the incidents are not connected and there is no reason for community concern.

The first was discovered behind a plaza at Huron and Highbury early Sunday morning. Jeremy Cook, 18, had been gunned down while tracking his lost cell phone. Investigators are searching for three men in connection to that murder.

Then, around 12:15am on Tuesday morning, police were called to an Adelaide St. N apartment for a man in medical distress. The 49-year-old later died in hospital. His partner was arrested at the scene and the investigation is on-going.

Less than 24 hours after that, a 32-year-old man was pronounced dead following a fight on Commissioners Rd. W.

"In two of them (incidents), no charges have been laid and we're not sure the charges will be laid in relation to the death. The most concerning one, of course, is the one on Highbury Ave. involving Mr. Cook and we are actively investigating all leads on that case," Detective Inspector Kevin Heslop tells BlackburnNews.com.

Last year, London saw only two homicides. So far in 2015, there have been four murders, in two of those cases, both shootings, the people responsible are unidentified.

"I don't think there's any direct connection that we can make (for the spike in crime). We don't make judgements on human behaviour. These incidents are all separate and apart from our perspective and we individually investigate them. We have not seen any reasons to connect any of the incidents," notes Heslop.

He says in most of the cases the victims and assailants are known to each other.

London has also had a string of knife violence in the span of the last month, including the repeated stabbing of a five-year-old girl. Click here for more information on what police are doing about that.

Heslop reiterates that London is still a safe community overall, there have just been a string of serious crimes in a short period of time.
