London Police Name New Deputy Chief

Woodstock police officer Daryl Longworth is London Police Service's new Deputy Chief.

Longworth was born and raised in Woodstock and has served as an officer for nearly 23 years with both the Woodstock Police Service and the Halton Regional Police.

"One of the challenges for me is getting to know the people here and earning their trust and earning their respect. Their support is going to be critical for my success and my ability to do my job," says new Deputy Chief Daryl Longworth. "I'm coming in from the outside with a new  perspective and a fresh set of eyes and I have the ability to ask the question 'why are you doing it that way and is there a better way'."

He and his wife Mary have seven children.

Throughout his career, Longworth has served on the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Youth Committee, Substance Abuse Committee, Innovation Working Group and the Executive for the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario.

He has received several awards in relation to drug enforcement and investigating outlaw motorcycle gangs.

The new Deputy Chief graduated from Conestoga College, The Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and the FBI National Academy. He is also working on his Bachelor of Professional Arts through Athabasca University.

Longworth volunteers within the community, coaching soccer, football, basketball and hockey. His family also volunteers with the Operation Sharing and Salvation Army Christmas initiatives.

His start date with London Police Service has yet to be set. Longworth replaces Deputy Chief Brent Shea, who retires in July.
