Final Decision Expected On Rock The Park

Council will make a final decision tonight on whether to allow organizers of Rock The Park to host five straight nights of music in London's Harris Park.

The event is looking to add a fifth night this year in an effort to raise more money for Bethany's Hope Foundation.

However, city bylaws cap events in Harris Park at four days. Councillors at the Corporate Services Committee have given the ok for the extension, but it must still be approved by full council.

The first concert would be on Tuesday, July 14 and the festival would run until Saturday, July 18. Right now, the Jones Entertainment Group does not have an act booked for the Friday night, as the bylaw forces organizers to take a break.

Officials at the Bethany's Hope Foundation have said the extra night would mean they could eliminate one of the other major fundraisers throughout the year.

The annual festival is a fundraiser for Bethany's Hope Foundation, which raises money for those dealing with Metrachromatic Leukodystrophy.

Council fast-tracked the decision making process so the Jones Entertainment Group can line up bands for the Friday night, if the bylaw exemption is approved.

Organizers have yet to say who the act would be for the Friday night. Rock The Park does not have a classic rock night scheduled for this year.
