Baechler Takes Job With University

Former London Mayor Joni Baechler is taking on a new role at Western University.

She will serve as the first ever Distinguished Practitioner in Residence for the Local Government Program.

Baechler was appointed mayor in 2014 after Joe Fontana resigned. Prior to that, she served as a city councillor for 14 years.

During the one-year term she will guest lecture in a wide range of courses, focusing on urban politics and encouraging women to get involved in government.

"I have enjoyed a life-long love of learning and this new position not only allows me to share my insight with the next generation of public administrators but also provides an extraordinary opportunity to engage with Western's faculty and staff, who are already delivering a first-rate education," says Baechler.

Western's Local Government Program started in 1974 and has had more than 1,000 graduates.
