December The Worst Month For Collisions

December is being called the worst month of all for collisions across Canada.

Tuesday's slippery afternoon drive was a case in point and patchy freezing drizzle overnight and into early Wednesday morning could make roads very slippery.

As flurries moved in on Tuesday afternoon, London police attended more than a dozen collisions and evening. OPP say there were more than 400 crashes on provincial highways late yesterday.

It's not just the weather. Allstate Insurance says drivers' minds are on other things this month, like socializing and getting ready for Christmas. Ontario is second only to Alberta for the most December crashes but London is in the middle of the pack. Ottawa has the highest collision rate and Sarnia has the lowest.

Allstate says the most crashes happen on December 21, 22 and 23. They say drivers need to slow down and be more patient to avoid meeting someone by accident.
