As expected it was a brief appearance in court this morning for a member of Mayor Joe Fontana’s legal team.
Fontana was represented by Perrie Douglas, legal assistant to his lawyer, Gordon Cudmore.
The case was put over to February 26 to allow the crown time to provide disclosure of evidence to the defense.
Fontana’s lawyer, Gord Cudmore, says that means he will finally be able to see what evidence the RCMP used during its investigation.
Cudmore says over the next seven weeks lawyers will meet to discuss the evidence and decide how they want to move forward.
In November, Fontana was charged with fraud, breach of trust and uttering forged documents after an RCMP investigation into allegations the then Labour Minister paid a $1,700 deposit for his son’s wedding reception with public money.
At a news conference in late November Cudmore said he will enter a plea of not-guilty as soon as possible but that court proceedings could take up to a year.
