Police Briefs – Sunday May 7, 2017

A man who tried to escape from police custody is now facing several charges.

Police say officers were in the process of arresting a man on domestic related charges, when the man pulled away and ran.

After a short pursuit, police caught the man after he stumbled while running.

He has been charged with domestic related mischief, theft, possession, resisting arrest, and escaping lawful custody.

A Chatham man has been arrested for allegedly trying to steal from Walmart.

Police say the male was arrested by security on Saturday for theft and possession under $5,000.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a break-in at a barn in Dover Township.

Police say a 2005 20HP John Deere riding mower Model L118 was reported stolen. It’s worth approximately $1,500.

A garage in Chatham was also broken into over the weekend.

Police say an unknown suspect broke into a garage in Chatham’s north end. A Giant Talon Magnus bicycle has been reported stolen.

The bike is red and black. It’s valued at $800.
