Spitfires trade for defenceman

The Windsor Spitfires have made a move to beef up their blue line.

Days before the Spits open their regular season, the team announced that it has acquired defenceman Sean Allen from the Oshawa Generals, in exchange for Windsor's conditional fifth-round pick in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.

Allen, 20, stands 6' 3" and weighs 194 pounds, according to the Elite Prospects website. The overage player spent the first four years of his OHL career with the Generals and the Kitchener Rangers. Over portions of the past three seasons, Allen played in 135 regular season games and 16 playoff contests. He is a prospect in the system of the St. Louis Blues in the NHL.

Spitfires general manager and part-owner Warren Rychel said it was an ideal move to add the Puslinch, Ontario native to their defensive corps.

"Sean is a great addition to our young defence core and he will provide leadership and toughness," Rychel said in a statement released Monday. "We got some excellent reports from the St. Louis Blues from his recent time at training camp with them."

Allen is expected to meet his new teammates at practice Tuesday, then play when the Spitfires kick off the regular season at the WFCU Centre Thursday night against the Guelph Storm.
