Spitfires Acquire Winger For Draft Picks

The Windsor Spitfires have added a scorer to their arsenal.

The OHL club announced Friday afternoon that it has acquired winger Will Cuylle from the Peterborough Petes in exchange for a series of draft picks.

Cuylle was the third overall pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The 6'2", 200 lbs native of Toronto had nine goals and 12 points overall in six games at this year's OHL Cup. Last season, he skated with the Toronto Marlboros Midgets AAAs, where he scored 62 points in 43 regular season games.

In return, the Spits are sending to Peterborough six picks plus a conditional pick. These are the second-round pick in 2019 from the Kitchener Rangers, along with their third-round pick in 2020; the Spits' fifth-round pick in 2020, their third-rounder in 2021, the second-round pick from the Barrie Colts in 2022, and Windsor's third-round pick in 2023. The conditional pick is Kitchener's second-rounder in 2024.

Windsor general manager and part-owner Warren Rychel says they are thrilled with the acquisition.

“It's an exciting day when you can acquire a big, elite power forward like Will without giving up a player,” says Rychel. “He has so many tools, a great shot and a real knack for the net. For now, he will fit in well with our young group moving forward. We expect big things from Will.”

Cuylle will join the Spitfires Saturday in Buffalo, where they are participating in the preseason OHL Showcase.
