Leamington Stops Maroons 5-1

The Chatham Maroons fell behind early at Memorial Arena, losing to the Leamington Flyers 5-1 Sunday night.

The Flyers move into a second-place tie with the LaSalle Vipers in the GOJHL Western Conference standings with 56 points apiece. The Maroons are in sixth place with 38 points.

Leamington scored their first two goals in the first period, within 29 seconds of each other. Josh Pope-Ferguson scored the first goal on the power play and Maddux Rychel followed suit.

The Flyers made the score 3-0 in the second period when Blake Johnson found the net at 5:10. Chatham finally got on the board at 15:56 with a goal from Josh Supryka, but Leamington got that goal back before the intermission when Cody Schneider scored a power play goal.

Rory DeNiro scored for the Flyers for good measure in the third period's only goal.

Noah Hedrick faced 34 shots in goal for the Flyers and stopped 33 of them. Ryan Wagner had 25 saves for the Maroons.

Chatham next welcomes the St. Thomas Stars to Memorial Arena on Thursday night. The Flyers host the St. Marys Lincolns.
