Maroons Tame Vipers 4-1

Steven Fowler scored twice as the Chatham Maroons beat the LaSalle Vipers 4-1 at Memorial Arena Sunday.

The Maroons now have 29 points in the GOJHL Western Conference and sit in sixth place. The Vipers are in fourth place with 36 points.

The first period was scoreless and each side killed off one penalty. Fowler put the Maroons on the board at 13:54 in the second period with a power play goal. Over two and a half minutes later, the Vipers' Manny Silverio used a power play score of his own to tie the game at one goal apiece.

Dane Johnstone needed only 27 seconds of the third period to give Chatham a 2-1 lead. Fowler scored his second goal of the night shortly after the midway point of the frame to extend the Maroons' lead. Grant Spence put the game away with an empty-netter near the end of regulation.

Ryan Wagner let in just one shot out of 33 in net for the Maroons. Dershahn Stewart had 36 saves for the Vipers.

LaSalle hosts the St. Thomas Stars Wednesday night. Chatham travels to Leamington on Thursday. Puck drop is at 7:10pm and all the action can be heard live on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
