Jr. Hockey Wrap-Up - November 12, 2017

Nolan Hakr notched a shutout, stopping all 28 shots he faced as the Mooretown Flags beat the Admirals in Amherstburg 4-0.

The Flags sit in fourth place in the PJHL Stobbs Division with 24 points, though just four behind the first place Leamington Flyers.

Joe Ferrara opened up the scoring in the contest for Mooretown with the first period's only goal, at 11:40. The Flags outshot the Admirals in the period 14-8.

The Flags added two goals in the second period. Nolan Riley doubled the Mooretown lead with a power play goal at 3:35. Logan Gardner strengthened the Flags lead later in the frame.

Brent Blais put the game away for Mooretown with an empty-netter late in regulation.

Ben Larder took the loss for the Addys, notching 35 saves.

The Flags travel to Lakeshore Friday night while Amherstburg travels to Wallaceburg Wednesday.

Ryan Wismer scored twice as the Essex 73s beat the Blenheim Blades 5-4 in a back-and-forth battle at Blenheim.

The Blades picked up a 2-0 lead by the middle of the first period. Lucas Fancy cracked the scoreboard at 3:14 and Bryce Broad later followed suit. The 73s responded before the first intermission with two goals of their own, from Luke Gecse and Wismer's first goal of the evening.

Essex used the middle stanza to pull away with two unanswered scores. Cody Leeming gave the 73s the lead with a power play goal at 7:01. This was followed exactly three minutes later with a short-handed lamplighter from William Stadder.

The third period saw the Blades even the score again with two back-to-back goals. Fancy scored his second of the game on the power paly at 7:46. Carter Wright tied the game at four-all less than two minutes later. Wismer's second goal of the game at 12:50 turned out to be the game-winner.

Tyler Ryan faced 23 shots in goal for the 73s and stopped 19 of them. Eric Stewardson had 16 saves for Blenheim.

The 73s host Lakeshore Tuesday night, then Mooretown travels to Lakeshore Friday.

Curtis Ferriera scored in double-overtime as St. Thomas Stars beat the St. Marys Lincolns 5-4 at Pyramid Recreation Centre.

The Stars sat in third place in the GOJHL Western Conference at the conclusion of the game with 26 points. St. Marys sits in last with 12 points.

There was no scoring in the first period, but the Stars killed off penalties that included a game misconduct against Mason Millman.

The Lincolns scored first when Tyson Kielt found the net at 49 seconds into the second period. The Stars scored three unanswered goals in the frame, from Kevin Hu, Ryan Bangs and Adam Keyes in order.

Daniel Cloutier scored two goals for St. Marys in the third period, including the extra-attacker goal with ten seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Jack Robinson also scored in the period for St. Thomas, while Clayton Lewis connected for the Lincolns.

The first overtime went by without scoring and Ferriera's winner came at 56 seconds into the second overtime.

Kodie Oude Vashaar stopped 27 shots in goal for the Stars. Tristan Lewis had 34 saves in the loss for St. Marys.

Both teams are back in action Saturday. The Stars travel to Komoka while the Lincolns are in Strathroy.
