Cougars Perfect Again

One week after finishing with three wins, the Chatham-Kent Cougars followed that up with three more victories.

The Junior Varsity team improved to a perfect 3-0 on the season with a 24-14 win over Sarnia Northern.

The Bantam Chatham-Kent Cougars beat the North Halton Crimson Tide in a low-scoring game. The final score was 15-6.

Tyler Shumanski carried the Cougars' ground game -- he had seven touches for 135 yards and a touchdown. He also kicked a 17-yard field goal.

Cody Boulley had the other touchdown for the Bantam squad with a 34-yard TD pass from Drew Barko.

On the defensive side, Luke Rupert and Jude Pearson led the team in tackles -- Rupert had nine while Pearson had seven and one assist. At the same time, Brayden Charbonneau was a nightmare for the Crimson Tide's QB with one sack and two interceptions.

At the PeeWee level, the Cougars tripled up the Oakville Titans 18-6.

Jack Crow factored in on all three of the TDs the Cougars scored -- he found receivers for two of them and ran the third one in by himself.

The defence came up big, too. Kaden Jefferson had an incredible one-handed interception and Brendan Normandin-Kerr was a one-man wrecking crew. He racked up 14 tackles (including five on special teams) along with two assists.

------------ Mixed Results For Diamonds

There were some wins, some losses, and some ties for the Chatham-Kent Diamonds baseball teams this weekend.

The Major Mosquito team beat Port Lambton in their first game 18-12, but then lost the second one 12-6.

The Midget Diamonds tied two and lost one at a tournament in London. They tied Cambridge 2-2 and Quinte 4-4, but lost to Lucan 4-3.

The Rookie Diamonds were the only ones to come away unscathed. They beat Blenheim in a pair of lopsided games -- they won 19-4 and 21-6.

Three Golfers Win Back-To-Back

Despite stormy weather and high humidity, nearly 100 local golfers hit the links at Willow Ridge in Blenheim over the weekend for the latest Jamieson Junior Tour event.

In the Junior Boys' Division, Luc Warnock of Fox Glen battled gusty winds to sink six birdies en route to shooting an even par 72 to edge out Marcus Slipchuck of Pointe West by a single stroke.

In the Junior Girls' Division, Sutton Creek's Hannah Meloche won her second event in a row -- shooting a 79 to slip by Jasmine Ly of Roseland who was just one stroke behind.

In the Collegiate Men's Division, Thomas DeMarco finished strong -- sinking birdies on five of his last eight holes -- to take the win with a four-under 68.

In the Collegiate Women division, Megan Schauer of Essex Golf Club won her second title in as many weeks with an 83.
