Gursoy Hat Trick Propels Maroons 6-1

Kevin Gursoy scored a hat trick as the Chatham Maroons beat the Lambton Shores Predators 6-1 Sunday night at Memorial Arena.

The Maroons now hold sole possession of second place in the GOJHL Western Conference standings at 67 points, six behind the LaSalle Vipers.

Austin Thompson scored the only goal of the opening period, at 15:47, with Gursoy and Brendan D'Agostino assisting.

The Maroons then scored four goals in the second frame, with Gursoy scoring the first two.  Bobby Harrison extended the Maroons lead to 4-0 at 13:02 with a goal, and exactly three minutes later, Blair Derynck extended the lead to 5-0 with a goal.  Wes Dobbin finally prevented a shutout by scoring for the Predators before the second intermission.

Gursoy completed his hat trick at 11:10 in the third period.  He had a total four points on the night while D'Agostino notched five assists.

Brendan Johnston stopped 26 out of 27 Lambton Shores shots for the win in the Chatham goal.  Cameron McAlpine was pulled from the Predators goal and replaced by Tynan Lauziere.
