Maroons Doubled Up by Leamington 6-3

Scott Florence had a goal and an assist as the Leamington Flyers beat the Chatham Maroons 6-3 Sunday night at Chatham Memorial Arena.

With the win, the Flyers gain two points on the Maroons in the GOJHL Western Conference standings.  Chatham has a third-place standing with 57 points, and Leamington is fourth with 53 points.

The Maroons got themselves out to a 2-0 lead going into the second period.  Bobby Harrison opened the scoring at exactly four minutes into the opening frame.  Bryce Yetman had the only penalty of the period for both teams, receiving a head contact penalty and a misconduct.

Ethan Sarfati extended Chatham's lead with a power play goal at 2:25 in the second period.  The Flyers had the score tied by the end of the second stanza.  Cale Phibbs scored at 5:14, and Dallas Maurovic tied it up on an unassisted goal at the 19-minute mark.

Florence gave the Flyers the lead for the first time with a goal at 2:03 in the third period, but Harrison tied it up again for the Maroons at 6:55.  The Flyers then scored three unanswered goals to seal the win, within a minute and 47 seconds.  Parker Jacques gave Leamington the lead for good at 11:22, Brett Vorshuk provided insurance 28 seconds later, and Josh Pope-Ferguson scored at 13:09.

Noah Hedrick was the winner in goal for Leamington with 25 saves out of 28 shots.  Brendan Johnston had the loss for Chatham, knocking away 33 shots.

The Maroons welcome the St. Thomas Stars to Memorial Arena Thursday night, while Leamington hosts St. Marys.
