Maroons Ground Strathroy 7-4

Austin Thompson scored two goals and Bobby Harrison got three assists as the Chatham Maroons beat the Strathroy Rockets at West Middlesex Memorial Arena Saturday night 7-4.

The Maroons are in a tie for second place with the London Nationals in the GOJHL Western Conference standings.  The Rockets are in sixth place with 23 points.

Thompson got his first goal at 3:32 in the first period.  Strathroy's Cody Schneider would tie it up later in the period but Maroons captain Steven Beenackers put Chatham ahead 2-1 with 39 seconds left in the opening frame.

The Maroons got some insurance in the beginning of the second period with Cole Dezainde putting it in at 47 seconds into the stanza.  The Rockets would then go on the power play and come back within one on a goal from Steve Griggs.  Dakota Bohn would put Chatham up by two once again just after nine minutes in, but Strathroy would get those two goals back before the second intermission.  Matthew Stevens and Brady Hogg were the goal scorers, both on the power play.

The third period was all Chatham.  Ethan Sarfati scored on the power play at 42 seconds into the period to put the Maroons ahead for good.  Additional goals would come from Bryce Yetman, with a lacrosse-style wraparound at 12:55.  Thompson got his second goal of the night 43 seconds later.

Lucas Patton stopped 30 out of 34 Strathroy shots for the victory, while Dan Davies got 40 saves out of 47 shots for the Rockets.

The Maroons host St. Thomas Sunday night, while Strathroy visits St. Marys on Friday.
