Junior Hockey Wrap Up - October 23, 2016

The Wallaceburg Lakers finally pick up a victory in the season, getting past the Petrolia Flyers 6-5 at the Greenwood Recreation Centre.

Brayden Kettlewell scored two goals for Wallaceburg, including what would become the game-winner.  Matthew Brevetti assisted on that goal and on two others in the contest.

Petrolia got off to an early lead with two goals in the first period.  Curtis Helps picked up his first score of the night just 20 seconds after the initial puck drop.  Zach VenEyk scored later in the stanza to make it 2-0 Flyers.

Wallaceburg got on the board 65 seconds into the second period on a goal from Trevor Waller, but Petrolia responded with two more goals, the first from Trent Jardine and then Helps' second score of the game.  The Lakers' Nolan Farr put a score up with just under four minutes left in the period, yet Wallaceburg trailed 4-2 after 40 minutes.

The Lakers crawled back into the game and eventually took it in the third period.  Kettlewell scored his first game goal at 36 ticks in.  The Flyers' Jack Hackett did give Petrolia a 5-3 lead in the sixth minute, but after that it was all Wallaceburg.  Justin Lindsay quickly put it in the net, and Josh Farrugia tied it up at 11:29 with a score of his own.  Kettlewell scored on the power-play at 15:17 in the third and the defence held for the Lakers' first victory of the year.

Zach Lindley turned away 37 of Petrolia's 42 shots for Wallaceburg, who host Amherstburg Wednesday night.  Petrolia welcomes Mooretown to town on Thursday.

Less than 24 hours after being stunned by Amherstburg, the Blenheim Blades rebounded for a 3-1 victory over the Dresden Kings at Blenheim Memorial Arena.

Nick Delyzer was one of three Blades with two points on the night.  He was responsible for Blenheim's first goal, at 5:31 in the first period, as well as an assist on Brayden Hopkins' goal toward the end of that period.

Dresden got on the board in the second period.  Eric Carter scored at 17:10 in, assisted by Chase Henry and Derek Shaw.

Hopkins' would light it again late in the third period, on an empty-netter to seal the win.

The Blades host Wheatley on Thursday night while Dresden welcomes Amherstburg on Friday.
