Maroons Demolish St. Marys

Austin Thompson scored four goals and added an assist as the Chatham Maroons demolished the St. Marys Lincolns 7-1 Sunday at Chatham Memorial Arena.

The Maroons dominated the game early with two goals in the first period from Michael Douglas and Devin Panzeca.  Nolan VandenBoorn had a penalty shot attempt late in the period but it failed.  Thompson picked up his hat trick with all three Chatham goals scored in the second period, within a span of less than nine minutes.  St. Mary's Chad Heffernan scored the Lincolns' only goal in that period.

Chatham picked up two more goals in the final stanza. Josh Barraclough scored just seven seconds into the period.  Thompson's fourth goal of the night closed the scoring at 8:43 in the third.

The Maroons went two-for-six on the power play and Brendan Johnston was the winner in net, stopping all but one of St. Marys' 33 shots.  It was also a physical contest, with Chatham's Cale Markham receiving a game misconduct, and St. Marys' Heffernan and Garret Nelson getting ejections.

Chatham travels to Lambton Shores on Saturday.
