Sports Briefs - September 30, 2016

The Blue Jays' offence was all but invisible last night as they got shut out by the Orioles 4-0. Toronto managed just three hits in the game. With that loss, the Jays and Orioles are now even atop the AL wild-card standings with three games left in the regular season.

Meanwhile -- the Tigers game against Cleveland yesterday was postponed due to rain. If needed, the game will be made up on Monday. Detroit is 1.5 games behind Toronto and Baltimore for the final wild card spot.

A clean sweep for team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey. The Canadians rallied late to beat Team Europe 2-1. Patrice Bergeron tied it up with three minutes left in the game, then Brad Marchand scored the winner with just 43 seconds left in regulation.

In Junior C hockey -- Kier Cumming had a hat trick to lead the Blenheim Blades to a 6-3 win over Amherstburg while the Dresden Kings lost 7-4 to Petrolia.

In Junior B action -- the Leamington Flyers blanked Lambton Shores 5-0.

In the OHL -- the Windsor Spitfires lost for the first time this season, falling 3-1 to Sault Ste. Marie.

In Thursday Night Football action -- Andy Dalton threw for 296 yards and a touchdown as the Cincinnati Bengals beat Miami 22-7.
