Spitfires Hiring New Bench Boss

The next head coach of the Windsor Spitfires will be announced this morning at 11am.

General Manager Warren Rychel says the new bench boss has no local ties, but is very well-respected in hockey circles. "He's going to be real exciting for the fans and it's going to be good. (It's a) good change, new excitement, new expectations, and with the young players we have and the returning players, I think it's going to be exciting for everybody."

Rychel says he looked at 50 applicants for the head coaching position. He and team president Bob Boughner interviewed candidates before the NHL Draft in Florida, and then flew four of them into Windsor for meetings last week.

Rychel is also hoping to add a new assistant coach behind the Spitfires' bench for the coming season.
